Re-energizing the handicraft village of

In a fertile valley 17 kms south-west of Amman lies the Iraq al Amir cooperative, which supports thirty women who produce ceramics, textiles, soap, hand-made paper and greetings cards and which runs a guesthouse and café. Shams Jordanie provides training, management and marketing skills to improve design and production quality of the handicraft workshops. The objective is to revitalize the co-operative's production and sales and to help attract eco-tourism to this charming traditional village.Thanks to Shams Jordanie, English and French language classes and sewing lessons are provided for the village’s workers....

Gaza Camp in Jerash is one of the most deprived Palestinian refugee camps in Jordan. Set up in 1968 as an ‘emergency’ camp , it now has a population of 23,000.Supervised by Shams Jordanie in collaboration with UNRWA, this pilot project supports and cares for 80 elderly people living alone or in deprived conditions. It provides them with regular hot meals and organises gatherings to break their solitude as well as social and cultural activities and outings to relieve boredom and depression. RECYCLING WASTE MATERIALS FOR A GREENER

Shams Jordanie works to support recycling by street-level waste collectors. With Entity Green Training, Shams Jordanie helps to bring communities and the private sector together to manage local waste, to create ‘green jobs’ and to  promote a culture of sustainable resource use.   Shams Jordanie finances the construction of trolleys to collect waste to be recycled and subsidises the training costs for the young people who search for waste in the town’s rubbish bins.  The 6 month recycling programme trains them to sort and revalorise waste materials.  Thanks to Shams Jordanie...

 This association cares for mentally handicapped children, it was started by a group of parents.The centre, located in Shmeisani, cares for 60 children who come every day for lessons and to participate in activities which aim to improve their daily life and develop their independence.Shams Jordanie has financed the purchase of kitchen equipment for the meals served at the Centre and funds monthly restaurant outings for the 60 children.In order to increase the capacity of the Centre, there are plans to build an extra floor and financial help is being sought.  ...
